More places to explore in Northamptonshire & surrounding areas…
Since becoming a Mum I’ve discovered so many amazing places I never knew about before in Northants, that are wonderful to enjoy whilst pregnant or with your little one - you can find my top picks here.
The other great thing about being based in Northants, is that we can easily access even MORE amazing places that are just a little further out.
So here is my ‘MORE places to explore’ blog for you to enjoy whilst you’re on maternity leave or with your babes….
PS As we’re in Autumn and rapidly approaching Winter… there’s a mix of indoor/outdoor activities for you to enjoy! I try to get my little ones (and myself!) out whatever the weather as I think it really does help us all feel better...
Emberton Country Park - just outside of Olney. To be honest, we had SO much fun here it meant we only managed to explore such a small area of this amazing country park. I went with a friend and our little boys loved the duck pond (top mum tip: take frozen peas for the ducks), digging for ‘dinosaur bones’ (you could take brushes to make it extra fun), playing with the stones in weighted buckets (again take extra buckets and spades for more fun), a walk to the main playground, and a lovely little lunch to finish off in the cafe. We will be back! You pay for entry per vehicle and can stay as long as you like… charges are
April to October £5.50 per vehicle
November to March £2.00 per vehicle
Crocodiles of the World - near Oxford, we went here for ‘my birthday’ (if my boys are happy, so am I!)…it’s not huge, but if you team it with a lovely Cotswold pub lunch after it’s definitely worth the trip. (We did spot that Jeremy Clarkson’s pub isn’t too far either). Lots of different species of crocs and other animals to see. Most of the attractions are inside, so could also be an activity to do on a rainy day. Top tip: it’s sooo hot in the inside areas to keep the crocs happy, so layers that you can whip off quick are key! We really enjoyed the croc feed & talk too. Book online in advance for cheaper rate…Under 2’s are free.. adults £15 online, Children £12…
Evenly Wood Garden near Brackley - this is one of my favourite places to explore. It’s beautiful and incredibly peaceful. There’s a little stream your kiddos can splash in (take wellies!), as well as fantastic treehouse/play area, and a wonderful little cafe in the woods with delicious food and drinks. I highly recommend!
Opens 10am-4pm, adult entry is £9 with children 4 and over costing £1.50.
Nene Court in Wellingborough. This lovely collective of small local businesses is really wonderful to explore with your bump, or snoozy newborn, and even your little ones! My favourites at Nene Court are The Garden Deli for tasty brunch, stocking up at Food for Thought (a zero waste emporium) food for thought wellingborough, a little mooch for gifts at Mochaberry then a quick trip to Dam Good Dough for some delish doughnuts, cause every mum needs a sweet treat, right!
Also opening soon is… My Happy Play Cafe… which looks amazing for little ones!
PS. We always take playdough sets with us for our brunches out to keep the little ones occupied... this lovely Curiosity Corner Sendory Dough set (this one smells like parma violets) is from my wonderful friend Carys' from Cariad Play and she has a fab discount code you can use on sets if you'd like...CARIAD10.
Willow’s Activity Farm (Peter Rabbit) … so one to bear in mind when your little ones are on the move. You pay for entry and everything (bar animal feed) is included in the price… little fairground rides, animal farm, meet Peter rabbit and friends, puddle play park, tractor rides, mini golf, bouncers, inflatables, soft play, sand pit … sooo much, you could easily spend a whole day here!
